Earlier this month I celebrated\u00a0my fifth(!) anniversary at Automattic<\/a>, where I lead our\u00a0WordPress.com VIP team<\/a>\u00a0(and occasionally serve as its mascot<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Famously, Automattic is a 100% distributed company: we don’t have a central office, and\u00a0instead everyone works\u00a0from where ever they\u00a0happen to be<\/a>\u2014home, coworking spaces, cafes, parks, planes, trains, and automobiles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For me, when I’m not traveling\u00a0or invading\u00a0the offices of the country’s largest\u00a0publishers, that’s my home office.<\/p>\n

And\u00a0I’m lucky to have two great kids who know when\u00a0I’m working and will give me the space (and\u00a0usually<\/em>, silence) I need to do that.\u00a0Once in a while\u00a0though, they sneak into my office and we’ll take some silly pictures together. I hadn’t noticed, but we now have hundreds of\u00a0these pictures\u00a0spanning the past five years.<\/p>\n

Many technology companies are generous with their salaries, employee benefits, and perks\u2014Automattic gets all of that right, and so much more. The value of these little moments together is immeasureable.<\/p>\n
